‘Barefoot Man’ Jo Seung-hwan Breaks World Record with Barefoot Performance on Ice


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Jo Seung-hwan, the "Barefoot Man" and public ambassador of Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do, celebrated the 52nd Earth Day on the 12th by successfully challenging and surpassing his own world record for barefoot performance on ice (2 hours 35 minutes), achieving 2 hours 50 minutes.


The event was hosted and organized by the World Culture and Arts Federation.


Jo said, "The recent COVID-19 pandemic, which has brought fear and disaster to the global community, is greatly influenced by global warming," adding, "I warn of today's climate crisis to raise awareness of the seriousness of global warming and to inspire courage in those who are discouraged and despairing."


Meanwhile, Jo Seung-hwan, the "Barefoot Man" from Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do, is recognized as a superhuman for achievements such as the world's first barefoot marathon from Gwangyang to Imjingak covering 427 km, the world's first barefoot climb of the perennial snow mountain Mount Fuji in Japan (3,776m), three successful barefoot climbs of Hallasan Mountain at minus 30 degrees Celsius, and setting the world record for longest barefoot standing on ice on January 19, 2019.
