[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Tap tap, swish swish... The clear sounds of hammering nails and applying paint come from middle school students.

Students from an alternative school have attracted attention by making outdoor wooden chair tables themselves and donating them to an educational institution being built near their school.

Songjeong Middle School, a public alternative school in Gangseo-gu, Busan (Principal Jeong Hyun-seop), announced on the 13th that on the 12th, they sent a meaningful gift to the Busan Student Character Education Center (Ullim Maru), which is being built on the site of the former Myeongji Elementary School near the school.

The students donated three sets of outdoor wooden picnic chair tables that they made with their own hands. Fourteen woodworking club students worked hard over two months during after-school educational activities to create them.

The students faced many difficulties in making their first work. The supervising teacher taught and assisted them. They completed the tables by applying their experience and skills from making gardening stands and small chairs.

The students poured ‘admirable’ dedication into the project, hoping that the items they made themselves would be used meaningfully.

The alternative school students took the initiative to contribute to the construction of the Student Character Education Center, practicing educational donation. They received continuous praise from those around them.

Kim Min-seong, a third-year student who participated in the production, proudly said, “All the woodworking club members cooperated from designing to making the tables.”

He added, “I feel proud thinking that the tables we made will be used at the Ullim Maru resting area to ease someone’s fatigue.”

Principal Jeong Hyun-seop of Songjeong Middle School said, “It is lovely to see students practicing the skills they learned at school and doing things that help society,” and added, “I hope they nurture their talents and dreams well and challenge their infinite potential.”
