[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The United States will begin administering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to adolescents aged 12 to 15 starting on the 13th (local time), following the vaccination of adults aged 16 and older.
On the 12th, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), an advisory body of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approved the recommendation for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for adolescents aged 12 to 15.
This decision came two days after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted emergency use authorization for Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for the 12 to 15 age group.
Accordingly, vaccination for adolescents will begin in each state across the U.S. starting on the 13th, the following day.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said at a press briefing that day, "Starting from the 13th, all residents aged 12 to 15 can receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. This will be a significant advancement for public health."
