[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Save the Children Western Branch, an international child rights organization, announced on the 12th that it conducted child rights education in Yongbong Safety Village, one of the child-specialized friendly villages promoted by Gwangju Buk-gu Office.
This education was planned to provide an opportunity to raise awareness of child rights along with children's own rights and responsibilities.
Earlier, on the 7th, the two organizations held a workshop for practitioners to promote children's participation rights, which helped increase understanding of participation rights among practitioners related to child participation activities and strengthen their practical capabilities.
An official from the Buk-gu Women and Children Division said, “It seems to be a good opportunity to broaden understanding and perspectives on child rights and participation within Buk-gu and to explore ways to activate participation.”
A practitioner who participated in the workshop stated, “Through this education, I reflected on myself for having conducted projects with predetermined answers, and I will strengthen my facilitator skills so that programs can be carried out based on children's thoughts and opinions.”
Save the Children Western Branch is collaborating with Gwangju Buk-gu Office on various educational projects and plans to additionally implement child rights education targeting five districts within Buk-gu in the future.
An official from Save the Children Western Branch Gwangju Office said, “We will continue to demonstrate a close partnership with Buk-gu Office to promote child rights.”
Save the Children is an international relief and development NGO working for the realization of child rights since 1919. It actively conducts domestic projects such as child rights education, the right to play, support projects for children in rural and low-income families, and climate crisis-related projects, as well as overseas projects including newborn survival campaigns.
