Song Young-gil, the party leader, announced at the on-site Supreme Council meeting held at Pyeongtaek Port Authority on the same day, "With the launch of the new leadership, the special committees on real estate, vaccines, and semiconductors have been formed with Kim Jin-pyo, Jeon Hye-sook, and Byun Jae-il as members." Byun, who has served five consecutive terms representing Cheongwon, Chungbuk, is currently active in the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee. During the 20th National Assembly, he also served as a member of the Future Creation Science Broadcasting and Communications Committee and the Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee. Byun previously served as the party policy chief under Moon Hee-sang's Democratic United Party emergency committee leadership in 2013 and under Kim Jong-in's emergency committee leadership in 2016.
