[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The Suwon District Prosecutors' Office investigation team (led by Lee Jeongseop, Chief of Criminal Division 3), which is investigating allegations of illegal travel bans imposed on former Vice Minister of Justice Kim Hak-ui, on the 12th indicted Lee Seong-yoon, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, without detention on charges of abuse of authority and obstruction of the exercise of rights.
The investigation team filed the indictment at the Seoul Central District Court, where the trial related to former Vice Minister Kim is ongoing, considering the jurisdiction of Chief Prosecutor Lee's case.
Chief Prosecutor Lee is accused of blocking the investigation when the Anyang branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office attempted to investigate the circumstances of former Vice Minister Kim's illegal travel ban in 2019, claiming that "the travel ban was lawfully executed." Chief Prosecutor Lee took a day off and did not come to work on the day.
