Kakao's Kim Beom-su to Establish 'Brian Impact' Foundation... Fulfilling Donation Promise

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Kim Beom-su, chairman of the Kakao board, is pushing to establish a foundation to fulfill his promise to donate half of his wealth.

According to industry sources on the 12th, Chairman Kim recently submitted an application to the Ministry of Science and ICT to establish a foundation corporation tentatively named ‘Brian Impact’ and launched the foundation's website.

To establish the foundation, Chairman Kim sold a total of 4,321,521 Kakao shares held by himself and K Cube Holdings last month, raising approximately 500 billion KRW in cash. A Kakao official stated, however, "The foundation establishment is in progress," adding, "The detailed plans have not yet been finalized."

In February, Chairman Kim officially announced his intention to donate more than half of his wealth (approximately 5 trillion KRW) to solve social issues. At that time, he mentioned his areas of interest for donation as "people preparing for the future, those who have not had opportunities due to digital education gaps, and AI talent."

In March, he also became the 220th donor to the voluntary donation campaign ‘The Giving Pledge.’
