[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Hwasun County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 12th that it will operate a "voluntary payment period" until the 15th of next month to efficiently collect overdue local non-tax revenues.
To encourage voluntary payment, the county has sent payment guidance letters by mail to 2,637 defaulters and is continuously providing guidance through phone calls and text messages.
After the voluntary payment deadline on the 15th of next month, the county has designated the period from the 16th of next month to July 15th as the "intensive collection activity period," during which it plans to take enforcement actions such as property seizure against defaulters and confiscate license plates of vehicles with overdue fines.
Currently, vehicle fines in the county (including lack of compulsory insurance, illegal parking, delayed inspections, etc.) account for 39% of the total overdue amount of 3.5 billion KRW.
For livelihood-type defaulters facing difficulties due to economic crises related to COVID-19, the county plans to actively support them by utilizing measures such as deferral of overdue payments.
The county has introduced an integrated ARS (Automatic Response System) for easy payment to enhance taxpayer convenience. Taxpayers can check various unpaid amounts and receive payment guidance (credit card payment, mobile micropayment, virtual account) with a single phone call.
A county official said, "To foster a 'voluntary payment culture' among defaulters, we are operating a voluntary payment period for one month even during the period of comprehensive overdue payment settlement," and added, "Since we also operate a 'local tax revenue account' with no transfer fees for taxpayer convenience, we ask that payments be made as soon as possible."
