Gompyo Wheat Beer sold at CU is on the verge of selling out its monthly production of 3 million units just two weeks after mass supply.
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] CU announced on the 12th that GomPyo Wheat Beer is close to selling out its monthly production volume of 3 million units just two weeks after mass supply began. On-site, it is expected that all stock will be depleted by this weekend.
CU informed stores the day before about the suspension of orders for GomPyo Wheat Beer. Despite increasing the supply volume 15 times compared to last year through the country's first contract production of craft beer, production is still unable to keep up with sales. GomPyo Wheat Beer will continue to be restocked until this week but is expected to be out of stock for a while. Sales are scheduled to resume at the end of this month. Although the factory is accelerating additional production, about two weeks are needed for the brewing process and other steps involved in making beer.
After CU increased the supply of GomPyo Wheat Beer on the 29th of last month, it surpassed existing steady sellers and ranked first in sales among both domestic and imported beers in just two days. This is the first time in over 30 years that a differentiated product sold exclusively at convenience stores has overtaken major manufacturers' products to claim the top spot in the convenience store beer market.
In fact, the average daily sales of GomPyo Wheat Beer at CU reach 170,000 units, with peak sales approaching 260,000 units. Moreover, sales of 3 million units over two weeks represent a figure 30 times higher than last year's average monthly sales of 200,000 units.
A BGF Retail official said, "Although we increased the supply of GomPyo Wheat Beer, the sales volume far exceeded expectations, and stores are still experiencing shortages. We are planning to increase supply in coordination with the manufacturer to coincide with the sales resumption at the end of this month, and we will continue to introduce follow-up products to succeed GomPyo Wheat Beer."
