Lotte Chemical-SPC Pack Sign MOU for Collaboration on Low-Carbon Eco-Friendly Packaging Development

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Lotte Chemical and SPC Pack, a packaging production affiliate of the SPC Group, announced on the 12th that they held a 'Low-Carbon Eco-Friendly Packaging Business Partnership Agreement Ceremony.'

Lotte Chemical, the largest Bio-PET producer in Korea, and SPC Pack, which has produced various food packaging materials used by Paris Baguette, Baskin Robbins, SPC Samlip, and others, signed a business agreement on the 11th at Jamsil Lotte World Tower. They agreed to jointly develop eco-friendly packaging by leveraging their respective strengths and expertise.

The Bio-PET packaging containers developed through this agreement use sugarcane as a raw material and can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 28% compared to conventional petroleum-based PET during manufacturing, transportation, and incineration processes. They are also 100% recyclable. The Bio-PET produced by Lotte Chemical has been recognized for its carbon emission reduction effects throughout the entire process from raw material production to distribution and disposal, and in March of this year, it received the Environmental Product Declaration certification from the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute under the Ministry of Environment.

Based on this collaboration, Lotte Chemical and SPC Pack plan to lead the eco-friendly packaging trend by applying Bio-PET to various beverage cups and salad containers.

In February, Lotte Group's Chemical BU introduced the 'Green Promise 2030' initiative and is actively promoting ESG management activities to achieve goals such as 6 trillion KRW in eco-friendly business sales and carbon-neutral growth by 2030. As 'conscious consumption' has recently become a new trend, Lotte Chemical plans to accelerate the realization of carbon neutrality by expanding its eco-friendly business portfolio, including Bio-PET and recycled materials, as well as securing greenhouse gas emission reduction technologies and improving energy efficiency.
