Discussion on Establishing Sustainability Across All Fields Before Lunar New Year; Regular Meeting Deliberates and Resolves on Sustainable Development Indicators
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) held a regular meeting of the Eunpyeong-gu Sustainable Development Committee on the 7th, discussing the establishment of sustainability across all areas of district administration, including social integration, economic growth, environmental conservation, and governance & institutional sectors.
Through this regular meeting, based on various vision proposals derived from multiple opinion-gathering processes such as advisory meetings, operation of the sustainable development institutional foundation preparation team, collaboration with policy research groups, and academic research projects, the vision was finalized as “Eunpyeong Opening a Sustainable Tomorrow Where No One Is Left Behind.”
Additionally, the basic and implementation plans for sustainable development in Eunpyeong-gu were deliberated and approved based on draft plans prepared through collaboration with various stakeholder groups and relevant departments responsible for carrying out actual tasks.
The basic and implementation plans for sustainable development in Eunpyeong-gu will be established and promoted, consisting of 17 sustainable development goals, 17 key implementation tasks, 45 focused project units, and 54 performance indicators. This plan is expected to serve as a mid- to long-term roadmap emphasizing the achievement of sustainable development goals in district administration from a macro perspective.
Moreover, 40 sustainable development indicators across four fields?social, economic, environmental, and governance & institutional?have been developed. Through complex diagnostics that cannot be measured in the implementation plan, it is anticipated that Eunpyeong-gu’s sustainable development can be evaluated in a multidimensional manner.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “As the destruction of human natural ecology is analyzed as a cause of COVID-19, policy awareness regarding environmental ecology such as the climate crisis is growing day by day. We are facing a crisis of sustainability, and the solution can be found in the value of sustainable development, which harmonizes and balances economic, social, and environmental resources without wasting or degrading the conditions for future generations while meeting the needs of the present generation.”
She also added, “To enhance community resilience through participation and solidarity, we will strive to internalize sustainable development, balancing economic development, social stability and integration, and environmental conservation, seeking ways to coexist and prosper with future generations. We will make great efforts to ensure that sustainable development acts as a core value in district administration and as a life-oriented value in residents’ daily lives.”
