- Approximately 3,400 Pyeong Studio Infrastructure, Presenting Next-Generation Virtual Production Direction with Subsidiary Mofac's VFX Technology
- Establishing Asia's Largest LED Wall-Based Virtual Studio in Hanam... Business to Fully Launch with Opening Next Month
Virtual production platform company VA Corporation (CEO Kim Dong-eon) announced on the 10th that it will actively enter the virtual production (VP) platform business, a next-generation immersive content production system, leveraging Asia's largest virtual studio.
VA Corporation is a specialized virtual production platform company that can provide one-stop services from planning to production of various immersive content such as movies, dramas, advertisements, live performances, and games. It plans to introduce a new dimension of virtual production platform that greatly surpasses the existing virtual production environment by combining △ Asia's largest LED wall-based virtual studio, △ virtual production technology and know-how utilizing Korea's top-level VFX (visual effects), and △ an original content IP (intellectual property) library.
In particular, by acquiring Mofac, Korea's longest-established VFX (visual effects) specialized company, as a subsidiary, VA Corporation has secured virtual production-based production know-how and advanced technology capable of controlling numerous software and hardware necessary for immersive content planning and production. Since 2017, Mofac has been the only company in Korea to participate in the planning and production of various immersive content such as movies, dramas, advertisements, and XR (extended reality) performances through active R&D in virtual production.
VA Corporation will first unveil 'VA STUDIO HANAM 1, 2, 3,' Asia's largest virtual studio located in Hanam, in June, and plans to open general studios 'VA STUDIO HANAM 4, 5,' an art center, and auxiliary facilities in the second half of the year. By early next year, it plans to build Asia's largest virtual studio infrastructure with a total area of approximately 29,000 pyeong (about 95,867 square meters) in Hanam and the Seoul metropolitan area, providing a higher-level virtual content production environment.
The 'HANAM STUDIO' to be introduced in June is located in Hanam, Gyeonggi-do, with a total floor area of 11,265㎡ (3,408 pyeong), and has three virtual studios equipped with a large LED stage, in-camera VFX equipment, and XR operation systems. The largest volume studio in Korea, surrounded by LED panels on the walls and ceiling (diameter 19m, height 8m, wing 12m), is optimized for movie and drama production, enabling more natural lighting than traditional lighting, allowing realistic directing as if on location. An XR studio specialized for media commerce and live concert production will also be established.
VA Corporation plans to strengthen its immersive content production capabilities and develop excellent IP through strategic collaboration and investment with entertainment and content companies such as webtoons, dramas, movies, games, and OTT (over-the-top) services.
A VA Corporation official stated, "At this time when digital content is growing, we will provide global-level immersive content production services based on Korea's largest virtual production infrastructure," adding, "With Asia's largest infrastructure-equipped virtual studio, optimal technology, and content IP competitiveness, we will establish ourselves as Korea's largest virtual production platform."
Virtual production, which is gaining attention along with the growth of digital content in the non-face-to-face era, is a technology encompassing immersive content planning and production in virtual environments and real-time visual effects technology. It is a production method that uses LED walls to enable real-time modifications throughout the immersive content production process, characterized by enhancing content completeness while efficiently reducing time and costs. A representative work completed using virtual production is the Disney+ original content 'The Mandalorian,' produced by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), a world-leading visual effects company pioneering virtual production technology.
