Government Launches 2nd Call for AI Training Data Construction Project... Job Creation Effects

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 11th that the second round of the 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) Training Data Project,' which involves large-scale construction and opening of high-quality training data essential for AI development through crowdsourcing, will begin on the 12th.

This project aims to build and open large-scale AI training data that is difficult for companies, researchers, and individuals to construct individually due to time and cost constraints. By 2025, 1,300 types of data will be constructed and showcased through the 'AI Hub' website.

This supplementary budget project has significance in that it provides jobs where anyone, including career-interrupted women and job-seeking youth, can participate in data construction online or from home, while establishing an early foundation for AI industry development. It also helps alleviate employment shocks exacerbated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The 40 types of AI training data to be constructed will focus on six core areas, similar to the main budget project. They consist of 25 designated public offering projects, 10 regional projects as free public offerings, and 5 free projects. The six core areas are ▲Voice and Natural Language ▲Vision (Video and Image) ▲Healthcare ▲Transportation and Logistics ▲Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries ▲Disaster, Safety, and Environment. The 25 designated projects were created based on demand surveys conducted from March to April this year targeting private and public sectors and finalized after review by the project planning committee.

The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to provide job information on the crowdsourcing platform for each project on the AI Hub homepage so that citizens who wish to participate in data construction can check all information in one place.

Related announcements will be posted on the Ministry of Science and ICT website and the Korea Intelligent Information Society Agency website. Institutions and companies wishing to participate can apply by forming consortia for each project. When forming consortia, participation from local governments and regionally based companies and institutions is mandatory.
