Sejong-si Launches Local Artifact Donation Campaign... Local Artifact Museum to Open in 2025 Relic Donation Campaign Poster. Provided by Sejong City

[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City announced on the 11th that it will accept donations of local artifacts that provide a glimpse into the region's past history and culture through a campaign running until December 31 of this year.

The donation targets include all artifacts and materials related to Sejong City from prehistoric times to the modern era, such as ancient documents, old maps, earthenware and porcelain, calligraphy and paintings, artworks and crafts, and folk materials.

Anyone, whether individuals or organizations, can participate in the campaign. The donation process involves reviewing the artifact’s preservation status, nature, and potential for exhibition use after receiving the intention to donate, followed by a decision on whether to collect the item. Donors will be provided with a donation certificate and a receipt for the donated artifacts.

As a way to honor donors, the city plans to form an appraisal committee to verify the historical and cultural authenticity of the collected materials, and based on contribution and classification grade, present appreciation plaques. Donors will also receive benefits such as invitations to major museum events and free admission.

Donated artifacts will undergo preservation treatment for permanent conservation and be safely stored. Selected items will also be utilized for exhibitions, research, and educational materials.

Meanwhile, the city plans to build a Local Artifacts Museum in Gounteul Neighborhood Park by 2025 to preserve and exhibit regional artifacts. The museum will be a complex cultural space with a total floor area of 9,940㎡, including exhibition spaces, educational facilities, rest areas, and convenience spaces.

Lee Chun-hee, Mayor of Sejong City, said, “Donating artifacts will be a great help in restoring the disappearing history and culture of Sejong City,” and added, “We hope for active participation and interest from citizens for the establishment and operation of the Local Artifacts Museum.”
