[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The navigation app 'T map' is gaining popularity among drivers in their 20s and 30s (the MZ generation) with its 'T map Celeb' service, which provides directions using the voices of celebrities and popular characters.
On the 11th, T map Mobility announced that 59% of all users who purchased T map Celeb since its launch in March belonged to the MZ generation. By age group, 17% were in their 20s, 42% in their 30s, and 28% were 40 or older. This reflects the consumption behavior of young generations who enjoy rational spending based on their values, even in navigation services.
T map Celeb is a service that offers directions using the voices of celebrities and popular characters on T map. It is based on artificial intelligence (AI) text-to-speech (TTS) technology, blending the celebrities' catchphrases and intonations to provide navigation guidance.
In March, voice services featuring EBS's popular character Pengsoo and comedian Ahn Young-mi were first launched for the Android operating system (OS). It is now also available on iOS. Users can access it through the 'Navigation Voice' or 'Settings' menu in the upper left corner of the latest version of the T map application (app).
This month, voices of comedian Kim Hae-jun, who is active as 'Choi Jun,' singers Lee Seung-yoon, Jung Hong-il, and Lee Mu-jin?the top 3 from Singer Gain?and singer DinDin will be added. Specialized navigation phrases for each celebrity can be previewed in the 'Navigation Voice' section after the product launch. For the Choi Jun product, phrases such as "Don't worry. I'll find another route. The road to Jun" are played during route recalculations.
Lee Jong-gap, head of the T map Life Group, said, "Considering that users in their 20s and 30s make up 24% of T map users, the purchase rate among the MZ generation is quite high," adding, "We will continue to strive to provide services that offer enjoyment beyond simple navigation while on the move."
