[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] As the spread of COVID-19 continues in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, concerns are rising about the spread of n-th generation infections within the region.

Gangneung City announced on the 10th, "Following the recent cluster outbreak of 86 foreign workers, 9 residents in Sacheon-myeon were confirmed positive over six days, raising concerns about n-th generation infections within the area."

It added, "During the epidemiological investigation of the cases originating from Sacheon-myeon, it was found on the 6th that the owner and some customers of a massage shop in the Solol housing complex were not wearing masks."

The city plans to impose fines on the owner and customers for violating quarantine rules.

The city stated, "Since many customers paid in cash, it has been difficult to investigate visitors," and sent emergency text messages urging those who visited the establishment between the 30th of last month and the 6th of this month to undergo testing promptly.

Meanwhile, as of 5:30 PM on the same day, 11 additional foreign workers in Gangneung tested positive. Among them, 2 are in self-quarantine, and 9 were identified during follow-up testing of other foreign workers.

As a result, the total number of confirmed foreign workers in Gangneung has risen to 87, with the cumulative confirmed cases in Gangneung reaching 375.

A city official stated, "As many foreign workers have recently entered the region, COVID-19 infections are spreading rapidly," and added, "We will take administrative actions based on a zero-tolerance policy for violations of quarantine rules."
