Completion of 1st Full Inspection for Workers at Noryangjin Fish Market in Dongjak-gu... 2nd Full Inspection

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) announced on the 10th that it has completed the first round of mass testing for workers at Noryangjin Fish Market, where multiple COVID-19 cases were confirmed, last week and is currently conducting the second round of mass testing.

The COVID-19 cases related to Noryangjin Fish Market, first reported on the 30th of last month, were confirmed as follows: ▲1 case on the 1st ▲2 cases on the 2nd ▲1 case on the 3rd ▲2 cases on the 4th ▲1 case on the 5th, totaling 8 confirmed cases, with no additional cases reported since the 6th.

Since the 30th, when the first case was confirmed, the district conducted tests on all workers in the fish market, completing the first round of testing for a total of 2,684 people (100%) by the 7th. The test results were ▲8 positive ▲2,676 negative.

Additionally, considering the incubation period, the second round of testing is underway for all fish market workers (2,676 people) who completed the first test.

Priority was given to conducting the second round of mass testing on 46 workers from 15 nearby stores where cases were confirmed, which took place over two days on the 6th and 7th, all of whom tested negative. The remaining workers (2,630 people) are scheduled to be tested over three days starting from the 12th.

Prior to this, on the 6th, a joint on-site epidemiological investigation was conducted by related agencies including the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, Seoul City, and Dongjak-gu. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters sent disaster alert messages advising people who visited Noryangjin Fish Market between April 24 and May 4 to get tested.

Meanwhile, when the first confirmed case occurred on the 2nd floor of the fish market on the 30th of last month, the district, in consultation with the Fisheries Cooperative, immediately closed the entire 2nd floor and completed testing all 136 workers on that floor. From the 3rd, when cases were confirmed on the 1st floor, testing was expanded to all workers, identifying 7 additional confirmed cases.

A representative from the Dongjak-gu Disaster Safety and Quarantine Countermeasures Headquarters stated, “Based on the epidemiological investigation results, we are doing our best to prevent cluster infections and secondary transmission,” and urged, “Those who visited Noryangjin Fish Market between April 24 and May 4 should immediately visit the nearest screening clinic for testing.”
