Seohae Coast Guard Agency Conducts Emergency Response Drill for International Law-Related Situations

For Captains of Medium to Large Ships Over 300 Tons... Preventing International Conflicts in Advance and Effectively Protecting Sovereignty

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Seo Young-seo] The Seohae Regional Coast Guard Agency (Chief Yoon Byung-doo) will conduct emergency response training related to international law for medium and large patrol vessels over 300 tons.

According to Seohae Coast Guard on the 10th, unlike other regional agencies, considering the large number of foreign vessel-related tasks, this training is planned to enhance response capabilities related to international law in order to prevent international disputes in advance and minimize conflicts with related countries.

Accordingly, starting from the 10th, Seohae Coast Guard will form an evaluation team centered at the Seohae Agency's comprehensive situation room. For large vessels over 1000 tons, the training targets will be the commanding officers and executive officers, and for medium vessels over 300 tons, the commanding officers will be trained. Various situational training will be conducted until the end of June.

The training will be conducted by distributing pre-education materials such as foreign vessel-related laws, manuals, and response guidelines to commanding officers and executive officers in advance, followed by situational response training based on various simulated scenarios.

During the training, the Seohae Coast Guard situation room will play the role of foreign vessels, responding to communication searches, warning broadcasts, and response maneuvers.

Seohae Coast Guard plans to provide evaluation results and feedback within one hour after the training, and if deficiencies are found, retraining will be conducted immediately after feedback.

Yoon Byung-doo, Chief of the Seohae Regional Coast Guard Agency, stated, “This training was prepared to minimize conflicts with related countries and effectively carry out legitimate sovereignty protection duties in case of incidents or accidents involving foreign vessels.” He added, “Seohae Coast Guard will continue to conduct various trainings to protect the safety and property of the public as well as to safeguard sovereignty.”

Meanwhile, Seohae Coast Guard plans to conduct job competency evaluations in May for comprehensive situation room personnel to strengthen individual capabilities and familiarize them with the characteristics of the jurisdictional waters. In July, this will be expanded to Coast Guard stations under the Seohae Agency to focus on improving not only field capabilities but also the speed and professionalism of situational responses.
