[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The heads of local governments in the 3rd phase new town areas urged the government and the ruling party to proceed with the project as originally planned, stating that "Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) is not implementing the project according to the government's development direction announced during the 3rd phase new town announcement, citing the vacancy of the president position as a reason."
On the 10th, the heads of the 3rd phase new town local governments, including Namyangju Mayor Jo Gwang-han, pointed out, "So far, LH has responded lukewarmly to the demands of businesses requesting the realization of the scale of corporate relocation site supply and forced the investigation of obstacles, causing conflicts with residents."
They continued, "Regarding the installation of essential facilities for residents' residential convenience such as parking lots, cultural facilities, and community facilities, LH has not presented specific plans, citing reasons such as increased construction costs, contrary to the government's initial position."
Furthermore, they stated, "In the process of promoting the new town project, measures such as securing temporary residences for original residents, supplying preferred uses for residents compensated with large land, and establishing corporate 'relocate first, demolish later' plans are not being properly implemented." They decided to propose to the government to amend related laws to secure detached housing sites as much as possible and to specially supply multi-family housing to facilitate the resettlement of land recipients who have transferred their rights through consultation.
The local government heads plan to hold a meeting with the leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea, including its representative, and meet the new LH president at the earliest opportunity to convey the concerns of local governments.
The heads of the 3rd phase new town local governments share the view on the necessity of local governments playing a more leading role in new town development and intend to respond jointly until the 3rd phase new town is promoted as announced by the government.
Meanwhile, at the 7th meeting of the 3rd phase new town local government heads held on the 8th at Union Tower in Hanam City, attendees included Namyangju Mayor Jo Gwang-han, Hanam Mayor Kim Sang-ho, Goyang Mayor Lee Jae-jun, Gwacheon Mayor Kim Jong-cheon, and Bucheon Mayor Jang Deok-cheon.
