[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] KBI Group's automotive parts division global air conditioning specialist company KBI Autotech announced on the 10th that its high-voltage air purifier for buses, currently in pilot operation, is receiving positive responses.
According to KBI Autotech, the bus high-voltage air purifier, which began development in 2018 and succeeded in production last year, is currently being test-operated with pilot installations on buses in the Cheongju and Jeju areas.
The newly developed bus air purifier can be used permanently with a high-voltage electrostatic precipitation method without the need for filter replacement. Therefore, it is evaluated as fundamentally improving the issues of industrial waste disposal caused by filter replacement and the decrease in air conditioner performance during summer.
In addition, it is equipped with an ionizer, UV-A LED, UV-C LED, and photocatalyst, adding sterilization and virus removal functions beyond air purification. KBI Autotech also explained that it includes a function to transmit real-time fine dust concentration measurement data inside the bus through GPS and communication modules.
The collected fine dust concentration measurement data is disclosed in real time to bus users through a webpage.
Furthermore, the product was evaluated by the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL), a domestic accredited institution, for sterilization and virus removal functions, confirming a 99.8% reduction rate of airborne bacteria and an 81.1% reduction rate of airborne viruses. It also received an evaluation of a purification capacity of 324㎥/h from the domestic accredited certification institution DT&C Co., Ltd.
Additionally, the company added that it obtained a patent for the electric air cleaner in 2019, and patent applications are underway for the sterilization and virus removal functions.
A KBI Autotech official said, “KBI Autotech products, which had focused on air conditioner functions for commercial vehicles, are expanding to products that manage air quality by removing fine dust and viruses,” and added, “We will continue to introduce products that provide appropriate indoor air temperature and cleanliness for passenger comfort.”
