'Prevention-Focused Landslide Management'... Gyeonggi-do Establishes Rapid Response System

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Ahead of the rainy season, when concerns about landslide damage due to heavy rains and typhoons are increasing, Gyeonggi-do will operate the 'Gyeonggi-do Landslide Countermeasure Situation Room' for five months from the 15th of this month to October 15th, establishing a rapid response system.

According to Gyeonggi-do on the 10th, the Landslide Countermeasure Situation Room, led by the Director of the Livestock and Forestry Bureau, will closely communicate with central government agencies such as the Korea Forest Service and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and will implement systematic prevention and response measures including response according to landslide crisis alert levels and rapid cause investigation.

In particular, this year, the focus will be on identifying and managing the restoration rate of landslide damage caused by last year's heavy rains, continuously inspecting landslide-prone areas around residential zones, and completing erosion control projects before the rainy season, as well as preventive measures and safety inspections in disaster-prone areas.

Furthermore, an organic cooperation system will be established with related organizations such as the Korea Forest Service Landslide Prevention Support Headquarters, 31 cities and counties, the Provincial Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, fire departments, police, and the Erosion Control Association to carry out proactive evacuation of residents in landslide-prone areas, rescue operations, road control, cause investigation, and restoration.

In addition, administrative efforts will be concentrated on prevention-oriented landslide management, including managing landslide prediction information and inspecting maps of vulnerable areas.
