Dongdaemun-gu Invests 50 Million Won to Improve Working Conditions for Apartment Security Workers

Plan to Amend Ordinance... 50 Million Won Invested in 25 Apartment Complexes for Air Conditioning and Heating Installation, Facility Repairs, Window and Entrance Door Replacement, etc.

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) is implementing the ‘Security Workers’ Working Environment Improvement Project’ to boost the morale and improve the working conditions of security workers employed in local apartment complexes.

For the project implementation, the district received applications from apartment complexes in the area until April 23, resulting in 49 projects from 25 apartment complexes (worth a total of approximately 50 million KRW).

Based on this, the district will carry out improvements in the working and rest areas of security workers and cleaners, including ▲ installation and replacement of air conditioners ▲ installation of heating facilities ▲ repair of restrooms and shower facilities ▲ replacement of wallpaper and flooring ▲ ceiling and floor construction ▲ replacement of windows and entrance doors.

Additionally, to reduce the electricity costs incurred from operating heating and cooling devices in security offices, the district plans to actively inform and promote the ‘Solar Mini Power Plant Distribution Project’ to management entities, encouraging the installation of mini power plants in security offices to alleviate the burden of rising apartment management fees.

Meanwhile, the district plans to revise the ‘Apartment Management Support Ordinance’ to increase district subsidies for the apartment security workers’ working environment improvement project so that more security workers can benefit.

Through this, the support rate is intended to be expanded from 70% of the total project cost to up to 90%.

You Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “We will do our best to support the respect for human rights and improvement of working conditions for essential workers such as security workers and cleaners who quietly work under difficult circumstances in apartment complexes,” and added, “Residents and security workers are a residential community that needs each other, so we ask for the interest and consideration of the resident representative meetings and management entities.”
