Seongbuk-gu Wins Seoul Community Chest of Korea Excellent District Award for 3 Consecutive Years...Commends 61 Donors Leading Support for Low-Income Residents
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro), which has been selected as an excellent autonomous district by the Seoul Community Chest of Korea for three consecutive years, awarded commendations to outstanding donors of the ‘2021 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign’ on the 3rd, together with the Seoul Community Chest of Korea (Chairman Yoon Young-duk).
The ‘Warm Winter Campaign’ is a winter neighbor-helping project jointly conducted by the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul and the Seoul Community Chest of Korea.
It helps vulnerable neighbors such as basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups, people with disabilities, and single-parent families with donations and goods contributed by residents.
This time, Seongbuk-gu conducted fundraising from November 16, 2020, to February 15, 2021, collecting 311 million KRW in donations and 1.155 billion KRW in goods, exceeding the target amount of 1 billion KRW by 146%.
As a result, Seongbuk-gu saw a significant increase in fundraising compared to the previous year and was selected as an excellent autonomous district by the Seoul Community Chest of Korea for three consecutive years since 2019.
To prevent COVID-19 infection, the award ceremony on the 3rd limited entry to only the awardees themselves. The district official stated that quarantine rules such as disinfection, temperature checks, and maintaining a 2-meter distance between seats were strictly observed.
A total of 61 outstanding donors who supported vulnerable groups in Seongbuk-gu with warm hearts toward neighbors last winter received commendations from the district mayor, the Seoul mayor, and the chairman of the Seoul Community Chest of Korea. The commendations were presented by Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, Kim Il-young, Chairman of the Seongbuk-gu Council, and Kim Jin-gon, Secretary General of the Seoul Community Chest of Korea.
Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu said, “During this difficult time when everyone is struggling due to COVID-19, the hands reaching out to neighbors in greater need have allowed us to have a warm and happy winter,” and added, “I sincerely thank many people who have made Seongbuk-gu a warm place.”
