On the 10th, LG Uplus announced that it signed a cooperation agreement with the Korea Senior Citizens Association to establish a digital senior center aimed at enhancing the social activity capabilities and care systems for the elderly.

The digital senior center is a space equipped with wired and wireless communication infrastructure such as LTE and Wi-Fi, incorporating video conferencing systems and care robots. Seniors can engage in stable activities in an optimal environment through indoor and outdoor environment monitoring. It also analyzes the attendance status of visitors to respond to solitary deaths or accidents.

According to Statistics Korea, the domestic population aged 65 and over is expected to reach about 8.5 million this year, increasing by an average of 500,000 annually. LG Uplus and the Korea Senior Citizens Association decided to actively introduce ICT to enhance the safety and social participation of the rapidly growing elderly population.

In particular, both parties are considering introducing AI-based robots in the digital senior centers. The AI robots freely converse with seniors to provide psychological stability and ensure safety through emergency call functions when detecting abnormal signs. Additionally, to bridge the information gap between regions, ICT-based education systems and remote education solutions will also be introduced.

Choi Taek-jin, Vice President and Head of LG Uplus Enterprise Division, said, "We will mobilize all ICT capabilities possessed by LG Uplus to support the establishment of digital senior centers," adding, "Our goal is to contribute to elderly care through digital senior centers and ultimately realize a world where seniors are happy."

Kim Ho-il, President of the Korea Senior Citizens Association, said, "We promoted the establishment of ICT-based digital senior centers to create an active business model different from existing elderly welfare," and added, "We will continue to discover services for seniors in cooperation with specialized companies in various fields, including LG Uplus."
