Gwanak-gu Conducts Comprehensive Park Inspections to Prepare for Increased Outdoor Activities in Spring

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) conducted a comprehensive inspection of the management status of 78 neighborhood parks, including Gwanaksan Mountain.

This was to improve inconveniences and eliminate potential hazards in advance to create a pleasant park environment as the number of park visitors increases due to more outdoor activities in spring.

The inspection covered ▲prohibited activities within the parks ▲operation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) and emergency bells ▲damage to drinking facilities, security lights, and benches ▲park cleanliness and facility painting ▲overall facility management including the safety of sports facilities and children's playgrounds.

Additionally, special quarantine inspections were conducted simultaneously, including proper mask-wearing, social distancing, and prohibition of food consumption while using the parks.

Major maintenance items included repairing damaged park usage guide signs, broken deck walkways, damaged sports and children's playground facilities, repainting facilities defaced by graffiti, and installing water quality inspection labels indicating drinkable water at drinking facilities.

During the inspection, visitors' inconveniences were also heard. Teacher A from Boramae-dong daycare center suggested, “Please plant flowers that do not attract bees in the flowerbeds near the children's playground to ensure children's safety,” which will be reflected in future flower planting plans.

Furthermore, to reduce food consumption and close contact among residents in the parks, social distancing markings on pergolas, pavilions, and benches will be reorganized, and efforts will be made to strengthen quarantine measures such as facility disinfection and expanding the placement of hand sanitizers.

Mayor Park Junhee stated, “The district, embracing Gwanaksan Mountain, a famous landmark of Seoul, is a green and clean area. Through continuous urban park management, we will do our best to heal the wounds received in daily life and improve the rest and health of residents.” He added, “Although fatigue from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic is increasing, we ask for strict compliance with quarantine rules when using parks to prevent the realization of the fourth wave.”
