Gwangju Buk-gu Selected for Smart Town Development Project Competition

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 9th that it has secured a total project budget of 1.1 billion KRW including national and city funds after being selected for the '2021 Smart Town Development Project' contest hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The Smart Town Development Project is a project aimed at solving regional issues such as aging by establishing services using information and communication technology (ICT) in urban or rural areas.

A total of five local governments were selected in this contest, and Buk-gu was the only district selected in the Honam region and nationwide autonomous districts.

Starting next month, Buk-gu will promote the ‘City Map - Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Digital Welfare Administration Integrated Care Specialized Village’ project targeting residents such as basic livelihood security recipients, the elderly, and chronic disease patients.

First, big data analysis will be conducted on the various welfare demand statuses of vulnerable groups living in permanent rental housing, and based on the results, a digital welfare administration solution will be developed to establish a new integrated management welfare administration system.

Additionally, a virtual reality (VR) exercise space will be created to help prevent dementia among the elderly, and AI-based emergency safety care services such as depression care for middle-aged chronic disease patients and smart band support will be provided.

In particular, infrastructure for prospective entrepreneurs such as shared offices will be established, and successful startups will be supported through technology exchange and human consulting with startup support organizations, contributing to youth job creation.

District Mayor Moon In of Buk-gu said, “We will continue to actively expand public services based on information and communication technology (ICT) to solve local issues.”
