[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Hyundai Engineering announced on the 9th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for technical cooperation with Luxrobo, a well-known domestic startup company, to promote its smart housing business.
The signing ceremony held on the 7th at Hyundai Engineering headquarters was attended by Hwang Heon-gyu, Vice President of Hyundai Engineering's Architecture Business Division, Luxrobo CEO Lee Daehwan, and officials from both companies, where they discussed collaboration matters for promoting the smart housing business and future product planning.
Hyundai Engineering plans to develop an IoT platform and related products to realize smart housing through technical cooperation with Luxrobo.
Currently, the ‘Hillstate’ brand complexes are applying the Hillstate-exclusive IoT system called ‘Hi-oT’ technology, which allows control of internal devices via smartphone, real-time energy usage monitoring, and access to various lifestyle information.
Through this agreement, Hyundai Engineering will discover and propose ideas to improve the smart housing platform and provide Luxrobo with detailed analysis data on residents' needs and trends. Luxrobo plans to utilize this data to plan products that can develop and apply artificial intelligence (AI) and IoT technologies.
Hyundai Engineering expects that the results of future collaboration will be linked to the ‘Hi-oT’ system, contributing to the realization of unique smart housing exclusive to the ‘Hillstate’ brand.
Vice President Hwang said, “As housing trends rapidly change, consumer demands are becoming increasingly diverse, and through an open innovation strategy tailored to these new housing trends, we are strengthening collaboration with various startups. Through cooperation with Luxrobo, a leading company in the startup sector, we plan to develop and actively apply a specialized smart housing IoT platform unique to Hyundai Engineering, providing various services that meet consumer needs.”
Meanwhile, Luxrobo, participating in smart housing technology development with Hyundai Engineering, was established in 2014 and developed Korea’s first modular Robotics Platform. It has grown into a leading domestic edutech company, gradually expanding its business areas into IoT and AI fields.
In particular, Luxrobo has developed proprietary technology in the Micro OS field and is expanding its scope to smart home and smart city construction projects based on core AI and IoT technologies utilizing this technology. Additionally, at CES 2019, Luxrobo exhibited a smart home model house applying its technology and won the ‘2019 CES Innovation Award’ in the robot and drone category.
