[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Jang Sung-min, Chairman of the World and Northeast Asia Peace Forum, argued that today’s Korean society requires the ‘democratic integrative leadership’ of former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln.
Chairman Jang expressed this view on the 9th through social networking services (SNS) after examining the reasons why former President Lincoln has been respected for a long time. He introduced that Lincoln demonstrated leadership that achieved integration which made today’s America amid the crisis of the Civil War, was a human rights activist, showed high ethical awareness and morality, was based on democratic leadership, and was leadership based on persuasion.
He continued, "The greatest challenges in creating new presidential leadership in 2022 are democratic integrative leadership, the ability to respond to changes in the world order and international affairs, the ability to overcome national economic crises, and high morality and fulfillment of moral duties," adding, "Among these, the verification of the candidate’s high moral qualifications and family issues will attract extraordinary public attention."
He further stated, "The fact that Lincoln’s integrative leadership is based on high moral standards provides many implications for restoring the Republic of Korea, which has fallen into a divided and distrustful republic under the Moon administration (Moon Jae-in administration), back to a nation of national integration," and argued, "To reunify the nation and people divided by the Moon Jae-in government, we must undertake ‘venture politics for national integration.’"
Meanwhile, Chairman Jang mentioned ‘high morality’ and ‘trust’ as the sources of the power to persuade the people while criticizing President Moon Jae-in. He said, "All of (President Moon’s) policies and words have already lost public trust," and criticized, "The evidence is that even when the president received a vaccine shot, the people distrusted and doubted him. In this regard, his words have lost the power to persuade the people, and therefore he lacks both leadership for national integration and the power of persuasion."
