[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] On the 8th, in celebration of Parents' Day, Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, shared his family story, saying, "The father who broke my spirit so much when I tried to study was actually a young man who dropped out of college due to tuition fees." Actress Kim Bu-seon criticized him, saying, "You said your father graduated from Seoul National University, is that another lie?"
On the same day, Lee posted on his Facebook under the title "Longing for Someone I Resented." He began by saying, "The last time I visited my parents' graves was during last year's Hansik holiday, and due to COVID-19 restrictions, I was able to visit only a year after my mother passed away."
He continued, "Although my father was the one who broke my spirit so much when I tried to study, he was actually a young man who dropped out of college because of tuition fees." He recalled, "My teenage years were days of desperately struggling while resenting such a father."
He confessed, "Looking back, the thing I had to overcome might not have been poverty but my father. Hating someone takes a lot of effort. That intense resentment sometimes strengthened me but also probably created darkness in my heart."

Lee said that when he was studying for the bar exam, his father silently deposited living expenses into his bank account, and "When I told him about passing the second stage of the judicial exam from my sickbed, he responded with tears. Only then did we have a belated reconciliation." He also added, "My mother worried about her children until just before she passed away. Although I was a disappointing child who caused her mental suffering, I will visit and greet her often."
Finally, he concluded, "Time has passed, and I have become the father of two grown children. I hope to get along more warmly with my taciturn sons before it’s too late. I write this as an excuse to offer my clumsy and awkward feelings to my parents."
On the same day, Kim Bu-seon shared Lee’s article on her Facebook and harshly criticized him, saying, "Here you go again with emotional manipulation. You told me your father graduated from Seoul National University. You said you were beaten every day when you opened your eyes. Your violence is hereditary."
She added, "A child who was loved and raised does not speak harshly, threaten, blame, or slander like you do. How long do I have to put up with that sight? It’s really disgusting, disgusting."
She also said, "Because of your festival of lies, I lost my only daughter and my beloved family," and repeatedly criticized, "Thanks to you, I have been unemployed for over four years. Where are you selling your emotional manipulation at such a low level?"
