[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Five new COVID-19 cases were reported in Gwangju Metropolitan City yesterday.
According to Gwangju City on the 8th, five people were confirmed positive yesterday and were classified as Gwangju cases 2475 to 2479.
Among them, two cases, Gwangju 2475 and 2479, are related to Seongdeok High School in Gwangju, where double-digit cases have been occurring since the 3rd.
The cluster infection related to Seongdeok High School rapidly spread after Gwangju case 2451, a first-year student at the high school, was initially confirmed positive on the 5th. The total number of related confirmed cases has reached 18.
A total of 1,387 students and staff of Seongdeok High School underwent COVID-19 testing, of whom 639 who had contact with confirmed cases were placed under self-quarantine, and 305 were classified as under active monitoring.
Among the 639 self-quarantined individuals, 610 are students and 29 are teachers.
Gwangju case 2476 is related to a social gathering in Damyang, and case 2477 is a patron of a nightlife establishment in the Sangmu district of Seo-gu, where a cluster infection occurred.
The cumulative confirmed cases related to the Sangmu district nightlife establishments total eight, including five employees and three patrons. Sixteen people who had contact with confirmed cases were placed under self-quarantine.
To prevent further spread, the quarantine authorities sent disaster safety messages to other nightlife establishments included in the movement paths of the confirmed cases.
Additionally, they plan to further investigate violations of quarantine rules at the nightlife establishments.
Gwangju case 2478 was a contact of Gyeonggi An-yang case 1535 and was finally confirmed positive during testing before the end of self-quarantine.
