Pohang City Breaks Ground on Heunghae-eup Multipurpose Disaster Relief Center ... 11.4 Billion Won to Complete by Year-End From the fifth person on the left, Lee Gang-deok, Mayor of Pohang; Kim Jeong-jae, Member of the National Assembly; and Kim Hee-su, Vice Chairman of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Council.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] On the 7th, Pohang City in Gyeongbuk held a groundbreaking ceremony at the construction site of the multipurpose disaster relief center in Heunghae-eup, aiming for completion by the end of this year.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Mayor Lee Kang-deok, National Assembly member Kim Jeong-jae (Pohang North), Vice Chairman Kim Hee-soo of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council, city and provincial council members, heads of related organizations and autonomous groups, and local residents.

After completing compensation for the 'Gyeongrim New Somang Town,' which was declared uninhabitable due to the induced earthquake, last September, Pohang City invested a project cost of 11.4 billion KRW, including 9 billion KRW from national and provincial funds and 2.4 billion KRW from city funds, to build a two-story building on a 3,790㎡ site, scheduled for completion by the end of this year.

Under normal circumstances, it will serve as a space for citizens' leisure activities such as basketball and badminton, and in times of disaster, it will be used as a relief facility to protect citizens' safety.

It is equipped with an indoor relief center (gymnasium), dining hall, psychological treatment room, and convenience facilities (rest area, shower room, changing room, restroom). In particular, it will be built with top-level seismic performance to prepare for earthquake disasters. With a capacity of about 250 people, it is expected to provide stable support for disaster victims during emergencies.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang emphasized, "Following the completion of the multipurpose disaster relief center in Jangnyang-dong, we have broken ground for the construction of a multipurpose disaster relief center in Heunghae-eup, the area most affected by the recent induced earthquake," adding, "Through continuous disaster prevention infrastructure projects, we will advance as a leading city in disaster prevention that successfully overcomes disasters."
