[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) held gratitude events across the district in celebration of Parents' Day.


These events were organized to create a meaningful Parents' Day that reflects on the significance of filial piety, expressing respect and gratitude toward the elderly.


First, in Sinnae 2-dong, on the 6th, the Comprehensive Social Welfare Center of the University of Seoul, together with the Sinnae 2-dong Happiness Sharing Council, conducted the "Elderly, Thank You 孝" event, delivering gift sets containing snacks and carnations to about 360 low-income elderly living alone.


In Myeonmok 3 and 8-dong, on the morning of the 6th, the Happiness Sharing Council distributed rose pots to 214 elderly living alone through the "Sharing Companion Plants" event, providing instructions on plant care and checking on the seniors' well-being.


On the afternoon of the 7th, in Mangu 3-dong, the 'Flower Dreamers Volunteer Group,' composed of community leaders, held the "Love and Gratitude Flower Dream Event," delivering hand-made flower baskets to the elderly, giving them a meaningful time to enjoy the fresh seasonal flowers. The 'Flower Dreamers Volunteer Group' sends fresh flower baskets made by the volunteers to the elderly every month.


The Parents' Day events continued at welfare centers as well. From the 4th to the 7th, five local senior welfare centers?including the Seoul Jungnang Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center, the Sinnae Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center, the Junghwa Senior Welfare Center, the Yongma Senior Welfare Center, and the Sinnae Senior Welfare Center?distributed carnations commemorating Parents' Day to registered seniors and local residents, along with special meal sharing events and special programs.


Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, "On May 8th, Parents' Day, we express our respect and gratitude to our mothers and fathers, who are both our past and future. Even though it has been difficult not being able to see our beloved families due to COVID-19, we will do our best to ensure that they can always live healthily and vibrantly."
