[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The National Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-su) held its 75th anniversary founding ceremony on the morning of the 7th in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of the university headquarters.


The founding anniversary of Pukyong National University is May 10. The event was held simply with only the president and award representatives attending to prevent the spread of COVID-19.


Although the history of national university founding began in 1946, the year after liberation, marking the 75th anniversary this year, one of Pukyong National University's predecessors, Busan High Fisheries School, was founded in 1941 before liberation, making it recognized as the oldest university in Busan.


President Jang Young-su said in his anniversary speech, “Our university is the first university in Busan with the longest history in the region and has produced numerous talents who laid the foundation for Korea's modernization.”


He added, “Today, it has grown into a leading national university contributing to regional and national development and a global university where students from over 70 countries study together.”


He continued, “The efforts we are promoting today under the banner of ‘Innovative Founding, Vigorous Leap’ are to establish our university as a world-class university and a specialized comprehensive university dedicated to humanity’s new leap in the future. We understand well that innovation involves pain. Let us recognize that this pain is a valuable journey for the future generations of Pukyong, endure it, change, and move forward.”


On this day, three professors?Professor Joo Dong-beom (Department of Lifelong Education and Counseling), Professor Kim Gun-do (Department of Microbiology), and Professor Wang Je-pil (Department of Metallurgical Engineering)?were awarded the 25th Pukyong National University Academic Award for their contributions to academic development by publishing excellent papers in domestic and international journals.


Professors Lee Min-kyu (Department of Technology Management), Son Yoon-seok (Department of Environmental Engineering), and Park Yi-seul (Department of Chemical Engineering) received the New Researcher Award.


The 13th Pukyong National University Industry-Academia Cooperation Award, given to those who contributed to the development of industry-academia cooperation such as joint research and technology transfer, was awarded to Professor Ahn Sang-wook (School of International Area Studies), Professor Lee Chang-hee (Department of Mechanical and Naval Convergence Engineering), Professor Cho Seung-mok (Department of Food Engineering), Professor Son Jeong-hyun (Department of Mechanical Design Engineering), Professor Kwak Ki-ho (Department of Technology Management), and Professor Kim Kwon-hoo (Department of Metallurgical Engineering).


Ten professors, including Professor Shim Gil-bo (Department of Food Engineering), received the University Development Contribution Award, and Professor Park Won-gyu (Department of Resource Biology), Professor Ahn Sang-wook (School of International Area Studies), Team Leader Park Jin-wook (General Affairs Department), and Officer Jeon Tae-eon (Marine Comprehensive Practice Center) received the Alumni Association President Award.


For long-term service, 20 faculty and staff, including Professor Kwon Oh-bung (Department of Mechanical Engineering), received 30-year service awards, and 10 faculty and staff, including Professor Lee Jae-yong (Department of Architectural Engineering), received 20-year service awards. Thirty-two students, including student Jung In-hyuk (Department of Marine Bio New Materials), were selected for special student awards and received commendations.
