Emart Diversifies Mushroom Varieties... Conducts 20% Discount Event

Emart operates various mushroom varieties in its mushroom stores to provide customers with a differentiated experience.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] Emart announced on the 9th that it provides customers with a differentiated experience by offering a variety of mushroom species in its mushroom stores.

Since last year, Emart has been continuously diversifying its fruit and vegetable varieties, with a particular focus on mushrooms. This is because the popularity of mushrooms has increased as home dining has become more common during the COVID-19 era. Additionally, people tired of simple dishes have started making gourmet meals at home, leading to increased demand for exotic mushroom varieties.

In fact, Emart conducted a mushroom purchase satisfaction survey last year with 1,142 customers at six Emart stores including Dongtan, Wangsimni, and Seongnam, and 22.3% of respondents said they would like to see more mushroom varieties.

Emart previously offered 10 types of mushrooms but now operates a total of 20 varieties after diversifying its selection. For pine mushrooms alone, it sells five varieties: Yangsongi, Saesongi, Haesongi, Isulsongi, and Chamsongi. In addition, exotic mushroom varieties such as brown enoki mushrooms, mankadak mushrooms, lion’s mane mushrooms, and emperor mushrooms have been introduced.

Mushroom sales have significantly increased since the diversification of varieties. An analysis of mushroom sales from January to April this year showed that sales of Haesongi mushrooms rose by 156.1% and Isulsongi mushrooms by about 221% compared to the same period last year. The new emperor mushroom variety also sold more than 70,000 packs over four months.

Meanwhile, Emart is offering a 20% discount on all mushroom products sold in the vegetable section when customers accumulate Shinsegae points until the 12th. This applies to all mushroom products sold at Emart, including eco-friendly and dried mushrooms, which can be purchased at discounted prices during the event period.

An Emart official said, “We implemented a customer-oriented store by reflecting customers’ voices regarding the mushroom section,” adding, “Especially through the discount event on all mushroom products, customers will be able to purchase a variety of mushrooms at affordable prices.”
