In the COVID-19 Era!, Digital Technology Becomes a Health Management Companion for the Elderly
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Geun-gi) announced on the 7th that it has secured approximately 280 million KRW in project funds after being selected for the
The project provides non-face-to-face health management services to seniors who have limited access to health promotion services by utilizing IT technology. This project is gaining attention for its potential and effectiveness amid growing concerns about infectious diseases due to COVID-19.
Project participants will receive various health measurement devices such as wristwatch-type activity trackers and Bluetooth blood pressure and blood glucose monitors. Data collected from these devices will be shared with the Gokseong-gun Public Health Center’s visiting health care team professionals through a health management application. Based on this, health professionals can easily communicate with participants at any time to provide health management.
Gokseong-gun aims to start the service in the second half of this year or by the end of the year after preparation. The project targets seniors aged 65 and older who need to improve their health behaviors and must own a personal mobile phone. Gokseong-gun plans to prioritize elderly individuals living alone or those with health risk factors such as chronic diseases (including hypertension and diabetes) and provide services to about 600 people.
A county official expressed expectations for the project, saying, “This will be a service that can proactively respond to health management in rural areas with limited medical accessibility.”
