Pohang Earthquake Apartment Damage Support Fund Raised from 120 Million Won to 500 Million Won

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Pohang City announced on the 7th that the partial amendment ordinance of the "Special Act on the Investigation of the Truth and Damage Relief of the Pohang Earthquake" has been re-notified for legislation, raising the damage relief support fund for common areas of apartment complexes from 120 million won to 500 million won.

The amendment to the enforcement ordinance includes expanding the support limit for common areas of apartment complexes, which had been controversial, to reduce the burden on affected residents. It also includes a provision allowing additional support through the resolution of the Damage Relief Deliberation Committee when support beyond the limit is necessary.

As a result, the difficulties faced by affected residents in repairing and managing common areas, which were caused by the uniformly applied support limit regardless of the number and scale of apartment buildings, are expected to be significantly alleviated.

The enforcement ordinance of the Earthquake Special Act was already amended once in April to include expanded rights for affected residents, such as "local government financial burden for damage relief support funds" and "special statute of limitations for claims for damages," and has been in effect since then.

Accordingly, the first round of damage relief support funds has been paid to residents affected by the earthquake since the 16th of last month. The second round of support funds, approved by the Damage Relief Deliberation Committee on the 30th, will also be paid sequentially.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang emphasized, "It is very fortunate that the scope of damage support payments has been expanded through this amendment," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that projects for the recovery of the affected areas proceed smoothly along with the payment of support funds."

Meanwhile, this second amendment to the enforcement ordinance was specially re-notified to expand damage support for common areas of apartment complexes. After collecting opinions until the 26th, the amendment process will be completed in June.

Residents affected by the earthquake can apply for damage not only for individual damages but also for common areas of apartment complexes until the end of August, and will receive support funds based on the expanded support criteria. This will also apply to apartment complexes that have already applied.
