Police Officers Prohibited from Cryptocurrency Trading... Must Also Report Holdings

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] On the 7th, the National Police Agency announced that it has issued guidelines prohibiting employees working in investigation and audit departments from purchasing virtual currencies.

The 'Virtual Currency Holding and Trading Guidelines' recently issued by the National Police Agency to frontline units include a ban on new acquisitions of virtual currencies by employees belonging to investigation departments and the Audit and Inspection Officer, as well as a requirement to report any virtual currencies already held.

The police warned that failure to newly acquire virtual currencies or report holdings will result in disciplinary action. They also recommended that police officers in other departments unrelated to their duties refrain from trading virtual currencies as much as possible.

The police explained, "This is a measure to prevent public officials from engaging in speculative activities in advance."
