[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Doosan Fuel Cell will participate in the joint development of the smart energy project in Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province.
On the 6th, Doosan Fuel Cell announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the joint development of the Gyeonggi Hwaseong Smart Energy Project with Hwaseong City Hall, Hwaseong Urban Corporation, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, and other local governments and related companies.
This agreement was promoted to create a smart energy town linked to the government's digital and green new deal policies. The main contents include ▲ stable clean energy supply using fuel cells within Hwaseong City ▲ pilot smart farm project utilizing heat generated from fuel cells ▲ establishment of urban gas (LNG) energy infrastructure in energy-vulnerable areas linked to fuel cells ▲ installation of small-scale solar power and electric vehicle charging stations using power plant management buildings and parking lots ▲ optimization of cloud-based remote energy management and implementation of virtual power plants (VPP) using big data and artificial intelligence (AI) ▲ establishment of a citizen fund for sharing profits with local residents. VPP refers to a system that operates small-scale distributed renewable energy sources such as fuel cells and solar power as a single power plant using cloud-based AI software.
Doosan Fuel Cell will supply the main equipment for the approximately 20MW-class fuel cell power plant on the Hwaseong City site and will be responsible for long-term maintenance service (LTSA). In addition, it plans to actively engage in research and development of various solutions that can be implemented by applying fuel cells.
Yoo Soo-kyung, CEO of Doosan Fuel Cell, said, "By participating in the fuel cell business combined with IT, we can secure new business opportunities, and this MOU is significant as it can serve as a foothold for future domestic and international smart energy projects."
