Record Lowest Temperature in May... Inland Areas Morning Low at 5 Degrees

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] On the morning of the 6th, as temperatures dropped, the lowest temperatures in some areas recorded the lowest ever. In inland areas, the minimum temperature fell to around 5 degrees Celsius.

The Korea Meteorological Administration stated that due to clear weather overnight and falling temperatures, the morning temperatures in inland areas showed around 5 degrees Celsius, resulting in chilly weather, and some regions recorded the lowest extreme minimum temperatures for May.

As of 6 a.m., the locations that set new daily minimum temperature records are Chupungnyeong (1.7°C) and Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam (1.3°C). Sejong recorded 5.7°C, the second lowest ever, and Bukchuncheon (3.1°C), Jeongseon-gun (3.3°C), Boseong-gun (4.4°C), Uiryeong-gun (3.2°C), Jindo-gun (4.9°C), and Cheongsong-gun (1.2°C) ranked third in minimum temperature.

The morning minimum temperature refers to the lowest temperature recorded between 3:01 a.m. and 9 a.m., so in areas where temperatures drop further after 6 a.m., the morning minimum temperature may change.

As of 6 a.m., some inland areas including Gangwon Province experienced subzero minimum temperatures. Hoengseong in Gangwon was -0.5°C, Hongcheon -0.4°C, Cheorwon -0.5°C, Goesan in Chungcheong -0.1°C, and Hwasunbuk -0.5°C.

The daytime temperature on the 6th is expected to rise by 1 to 5 degrees from the previous day to around 25 degrees Celsius, with a temperature difference of more than 15 degrees. The Korea Meteorological Administration explained, "Due to temperature changes, special attention should be paid to health management such as immune system weakening."

Until the morning of this day, frost is expected in eastern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, northern Chungbuk, inland eastern Jeonbuk, and northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk. In the mountainous areas of Gangwon, surface temperatures may fall below freezing, causing ice to form, so caution is advised for crop management.
