Seoul Craft Museum and Cheongju Craft Biennale Organizing Committee Join Hands... Sign Business Agreement Seoul Craft Museum

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The ‘Seoul Craft Museum’ will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the ‘Cheongju Craft Biennale Organizing Committee,’ which has been hosting large-scale international craft exhibitions, on the 6th at the auditorium of the Seoul Craft Museum.

Aiming for ‘Craft for All, Museum for All,’ the Seoul Craft Museum is finalizing preparations for collection, exhibitions, and citizen programs ahead of its opening in September. During landscaping work in the front yard of the Seoul Craft Museum, historical relics were discovered, and preservation work is currently underway. The opening ceremony is planned to be held once the construction is safely completed.

The ‘Seoul Craft Museum’ and the ‘Cheongju Craft Biennale Organizing Committee’ will sign an MOU regarding mutual cooperation in craft-related academic events, exhibitions, and education; mutual exchange and maximization of the utilization value of held materials and information; establishment of a progressive network for the development of domestic craft culture; and continuous cooperation in other areas of mutual interest between the two institutions. They plan to steadily carry out collaborative projects.

As the first outcome of the agreement, the two institutions are preparing a jointly hosted academic event called the ‘Craft Forum.’ This will serve as a pre-opening event for the Seoul Craft Museum and will be the first academic event marking the start of the 2021 Cheongju Craft Biennale.

Park Sang-eon, Executive Director of the Cheongju Craft Biennale Organizing Committee, said, “We are very reassured to have the Seoul Craft Museum, the only craft-specialized museum in Korea, as our partner,” and added, “Let us work harder together to deliver the comfort of craft to people around the world who are going through difficult times due to COVID-19, and to expand the realm of K-Craft.”

Kim Jeong-hwa, Director of the Seoul Craft Museum, said, “By joining hands with the Cheongju Craft Biennale, which has hosted the world’s largest craft exhibitions, the Seoul Craft Museum is expected to play an important role as a hub for promoting Korean craft,” and added, “We will continue to promote various exchange projects based on craft to firmly build domestic and international craft networks.”
