Gangdong-gu Seongnae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center Vulnerable Elderly 'Parents' Day Appreciation Event'

Gangdong-gu Chinese Cuisine Association Supports Vulnerable Seniors with Packed Lunch Delivery... Visiting Homes of Absent Seniors to Deliver Carnations and Lunchboxes

Gangdong-gu Seongnae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center Vulnerable Elderly 'Parents' Day Appreciation Event'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) invited vulnerable elderly living alone in the community on the morning of the 4th at Seongnae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center ahead of Parents' Day, pinned carnations on them, and provided jjajangbap lunch boxes.

This event was organized to reflect once again on filial piety toward parents and convey gratitude in the socially stagnant atmosphere caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and its spread.

In particular, by providing meals to elderly people living in isolation due to social distancing and bans on private gatherings, the event aimed to help restore their health and alleviate feelings of alienation and loneliness, even if only slightly.

Additionally, a congratulatory video prepared by Sinbaram Daycare Center and a video message from a life support worker added to the emotional impact.

The district has held events every year on Parents' Day, but this welfare center event invited and hosted 30 elderly residents in the area in accordance with quarantine guidelines, delivering meals packed in lunch boxes.

Meanwhile, for about 470 elderly people who could not attend, carnations were pinned and lunch boxes were delivered through home visits.

The jjajangbap for the event was prepared with support from the Gangdong-gu Chinese Cuisine Association (Gangdong Free Chinese Meal Volunteer Society).

The Gangdong-gu Chinese Cuisine Association started as a friendship group in 1997 and currently includes about 130 Chinese restaurants and individuals in Gangdong-gu. Every year, they donate 30,000 to 40,000 bowls of jjajangmyeon, sharing warm kindness with neighbors.

On this day as well, they provided jjajangbap with respect and gratitude for the elderly, enriching the event.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “May, the month of family, was a meaningful time to deeply reflect on filial piety toward parents,” and added, “We wish for the health and happiness of the elderly and will continue to promote projects for the elderly in the future.”
