[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Foreign and development ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) met on the 4th (local time) in London, UK, to seek ways to jointly respond to China and Russia. The issues of China and Russia are expected to be raised at the meeting.
Dominic Raab, UK Foreign Secretary, said at a joint press conference after a bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken the day before, "There is a growing atmosphere of closer cooperation among like-minded countries in response to Russia and China."
Secretary Blinken stated firmly, "We are not trying to suppress China, but if China undermines the order, we will stand up to defend it." Regarding Russia, he added, "We hope for a stable relationship, but that depends on Russia." After the G7 meeting, Secretary Blinken will visit Ukraine, where tensions are rising near the Russian border.
Major foreign media reported that the US and European countries are deeply considering how to deal with China and Russia, who claim that Western countries' criticisms are unfair. The meeting also included sessions related to Myanmar, Libya, and Syria. Secretary Raab plans to show footage from Myanmar and propose strong measures.
