[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Philippine Foreign Minister Teodoro Locsin harshly criticized China, which is in conflict over the South China Sea, using strong language including profanity.
On the 4th (local time), Minister Locsin wrote on Twitter, "My friend China, how can I speak politely? Let me see. Oh, please get the f**k out (GET THE F**K OUT)."
He continued, "What are you doing to our friendship?" and criticized, "We are trying, but you act like an ugly fool who forcibly seeks attention from a handsome person trying to be a friend."
Over 200 Chinese vessels have been anchored since the end of last year at the Whitsun Reef within the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the South China Sea. The Philippines estimates that maritime militias are aboard these vessels and has demanded their immediate withdrawal from China. Meanwhile, China continues to claim sovereignty over the area and insists that there are no militias on the vessels, which are anchored to avoid waves.
Regarding Minister Locsin's remarks, Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pointed out, "We hope relevant Philippine officials will speak with basic courtesy and according to their status."
