Seongdong-gu, Family-Friendly 'Salgoti Drive-in Theater' Screening Jurassic World and More on Children's Day Seongdong-gu Salgoti Park Drive-in Theater

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is operating a free drive-in theater at Salgoti Sports Park Grand Stadium from the 23rd of last month until the 5th of this month.

This year, there will be a total of 9 screenings over 3 weeks, with the final week designated as ‘Children Week’ in celebration of Children’s Day, aiming to provide children with safe and enjoyable entertainment.

Movies that stimulate children's curiosity, such as Jurassic World, have been selected and will be shown on a large 725-inch screen (18m wide × 9m high) so families can safely enjoy together.

The drive-in theater was first devised by the district last year as a nationwide initiative to provide psychological quarantine for residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

In the first half of last year, 31 screenings were held with 4,493 vehicles visiting, and due to high popularity, the program was extended through the second half, totaling 40 screenings with 5,867 vehicles attending, concluding successfully.

Additionally, in September last year, the ‘Hope Artificial Moon’ project was conducted as a unique event at the drive-in theater, receiving favorable reviews.

This year, a total of 1,457 vehicles will visit by Children’s Day, with 150 vehicles given priority for advance reservation, achieving a 100% high booking rate.

Accordingly, the district has prepared comprehensive safety guidelines to ensure safe enjoyment, deploying safety personnel throughout the venue for guidance and accident prevention, stationing ambulances to prepare for emergencies, and equipping the operation headquarters with hand sanitizers and thermometers. They will also enforce mask-wearing during outdoor movement and conduct daily disinfection of the Salgoti Sports Park stadium to thoroughly maintain quarantine measures.

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “The ‘Salgoti Drive-in Theater’ project was prepared to provide some healing and comfort to residents who have been exhausted and struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. I hope it will be an enjoyable time for children who feel frustrated due to restrictions on outdoor activities to spend with their families. We will continue to strive to alleviate cultural thirst along with psychological quarantine.”
