Gates stated on his Twitter that day, "We have decided to end our 27-year marriage. During that time, we raised three children and established a foundation that helps people around the world live healthy and productive lives."
He added, "We still share a belief in our duties and will continue to work together on the foundation's activities, but we do not believe we can grow further as a couple in the rest of our lives."
Gates and his wife Melinda founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000, leading efforts in charitable donations and disease research, earning praise for practicing 'noblesse oblige.'
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation manages the largest fund in the world. The foundation also donated $1.75 billion (approximately 1.9 trillion won) to combat COVID-19.
