[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Kia announced on the 3rd that it sold 249,734 units on a wholesale basis in the global market last month. This is a strong performance, up 78% compared to the previous year.
It sold 51,128 units domestically and 198,606 units overseas. Compared to the previous year, domestic sales increased by 1.5%, and overseas sales increased by 120.9%.
By model, the overall sales were led by the Sportage with 27,955 units sold globally, followed by the Seltos with 26,864 units, and the K3 (Forte) with 22,591 units.
In the domestic market, the best-selling vehicle last month was the Carnival with 8,670 units, marking the 8th consecutive month as Kia's top monthly seller.
Passenger car models sold a total of 22,047 units, including 6,607 units of the K5, 3,808 units of the Ray, and 3,348 units of the Morning. The K8, which started sales last month, sold 5,017 units including the existing K7.
RV models, including the Carnival, sold a total of 22,207 units, with 6,228 units of the Sorento and 3,491 units of the Seltos.
Commercial models sold a total of 6,874 units, including 6,697 units of the BongoⅢ, combining bus and truck sales.
In the overseas market, the Sportage became the best-selling model with 26,788 units sold. The Seltos followed with 23,373 units, and the Rio (Pride) with 20,213 units.
A Kia official stated, “Although management uncertainty has increased due to the resurgence of COVID-19, we will strengthen sales momentum by leading with competitive new volume models such as the dedicated electric vehicle EV6, the K8 (successor to the K7), and the 5th generation Sportage.”
