The Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute and Dongseo University signed an agreement on April 30 at the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute in Daejeon for "Mutual Understanding and Talent Development Cooperation in the Field of Digital New Technologies."
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A 'combined academic and research master's and doctoral degree' program, where half of the time is spent in graduate school and the other half in research labs, will be established at Dongseo University.
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI, President Kim Myung-joon) and Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) signed a memorandum of understanding on "Mutual Understanding and Talent Development in the Field of Digital New Technologies" on April 30 at ETRI in Daejeon.
Attending the signing ceremony were ETRI President Kim Myung-joon, Vice President Park Jong-hyun, Planning Headquarters Director Park Se-myeong, Content Research Headquarters Director Jeong Il-kwon, CG/Vision Research Lab Director Park Chang-jun, and Dongseo University President Jang Je-guk and Professor Lee Byung-guk.
According to the agreement, both institutions will mutually cooperate in ▶ talent development, personnel exchange, and joint projects in digital new technology fields (such as artificial intelligence, big data, bio-health, immersive media/content, intelligent robotics) ▶ joint development of curricula and academic-research exchange to establish a core talent development system in digital new technology fields ▶ joint utilization of research resources and promotion of joint projects for talent development and core technology development in digital new technology fields ▶ joint establishment and support of enterprise support systems to foster and revitalize regional industries.
In particular, on this day, ETRI and Dongseo University agreed to cooperate to nurture science and technology professionals by establishing and operating a joint academic-research master's and doctoral degree program at Dongseo University Graduate School.
The major fields of the joint program will include all basic and applied engineering specialties corresponding to ETRI’s research areas, with detailed matters regarding majors and quotas to be separately determined through the deliberation of the operating committee.
Accordingly, students admitted to Dongseo University Graduate School will, in principle, spend half of their time studying at the university and the other half conducting laboratory practice and thesis research under the guidance of ETRI researchers, who are top ICT experts.
President Jang Je-guk of Dongseo University said, “We are very pleased to sign a cooperation agreement with ETRI, a national comprehensive research institute creating the intelligent society of the future, in the field of digital new technologies,” adding, “Establishing and operating a master's and doctoral degree program for nurturing science and technology professionals will be an opportunity for both institutions to grow together.”
President Kim Myung-joon said, “Dongseo University, selected as a software-centered university by the Ministry of Science and ICT, has been conducting long-term industry-academia cooperation projects and operating personnel exchange programs with world-renowned universities,” and added, “The signing of this cooperation agreement between Dongseo University and ETRI will unleash infinite synergy for core technology development, talent cultivation, and industrial expansion to promote industrial development in the digital new technology field.”
