Seoul Jung-gu Operates ‘Mammamia Monitoring Team’ for Daycare Centers

Monitoring of Overall Operation of Daycare Center Meals, Hygiene, Safety, and Childcare Programs... Creating an Open Childcare Environment Together through Enhanced Communication between Parents and Daycare Centers

Seoul Jung-gu Operates ‘Mammamia Monitoring Team’ for Daycare Centers 2021 Jung-gu Mammamia Monitoring Team Online Launch Ceremony

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seoyangho) operates the ‘Jung-gu Mamma Mia Monitoring Group,’ where parents participate in various aspects of daycare centers to create a trustworthy and open childcare environment.

In the recent situation where visiting daycare centers has become difficult due to COVID-19, the district plans to strengthen communication between parents and daycare centers through the Mamma Mia Monitoring Group, build sufficient consensus, and create an open daycare center together.

From January to March this year, the district recruited monitoring group members from parents of children enrolled in all 65 daycare centers in the area. A total of 144 parents from 42 centers were recruited and will serve as monitoring group members for one year from March this year to February next year.

Considering the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the ‘2021 Jung-gu Mamma Mia Monitoring Group’ online launch ceremony was held via ZOOM on the 29th.

Compared to last year, the number of monitoring members has significantly increased from 80 to 144, and their roles have expanded. While previously they only monitored meals, starting this year they will monitor the overall operation of daycare centers including ▲meals ▲hygiene ▲safety ▲childcare programs, provide diverse opinions, participate in policy proposals and autonomous small groups, represent parents of each daycare center, and act as communication leaders.

The district plans to hold themed discussion meetings on daycare centers with childcare experts in June, and conduct meal experience and cooking practice programs at daycare centers in cooperation with the Jung-gu Children’s Meal Support Center.

Additionally, the monitoring group will participate in Jung-gu’s childcare education-related programs to gain a better understanding of Jung-gu’s childcare policies. The district plans to produce video content of this and share it with all parents.

It is hoped that this will be an opportunity for parents to check various questions they have about the daycare centers their children attend and to provide good suggestions.

Seoyangho, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, “We will continue to expand parents’ opportunities to participate in daycare center operations, collect opinions from the field, and strive to create a safe and responsible childcare environment.”
