[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A 'Giant Baby' weighing nearly 6 kg was born in the UK, attracting attention.

On the 28th (local time), the Daily Mail reported that Amber Cumberland (21) gave birth to her daughter Emilia, weighing 5.89 kg, on the 16th.

Emilia was recorded as the second largest female newborn in the UK.

The average weight of female newborns in the UK is 3.28 kg, making Emilia the weight of a 2-month-old baby.

Cumberland said, "Doctors thought she was a twin because she was so big during pregnancy," adding, "The ultrasound only showed one baby, but we heard that so many times that we actually started to believe there was a hidden baby (not visible on the ultrasound)."

At the 32-week checkup, signs showed Emilia was bigger than other babies, and at the 36-week checkup, she had grown to 3.96 kg.

Emilia, who showed no signs of coming even two weeks past her due date, was eventually born by emergency cesarean section.

The moment the baby was born, her husband's face turned pale. The doctors looked at each other and laughed in shock. One doctor brought the daughter to Cumberland and said, "Congratulations on having a baby."

Mother Cumberland said, "I tried every possible way, like eating 500g of pineapple daily and acupressure, to get her out quickly, but it was no use," adding, "After 4 hours of labor, I finally had a cesarean section."

The surgery process was not smooth either. The heavy mother could not move, and only after two medical staff lifted her was the surgery barely able to proceed.

After the baby was born, there was an awkward situation because the clothes prepared for the daughter were too small.

Eventually, they bought clothes for a 3-month-old baby and the medical staff had to find large diapers for Emilia.

There was even a situation where people lined up to take commemorative photos with this 'Giant Baby.'

During the pregnancy, the mother's skin cracked and even bled due to the extreme swelling of her belly. The rectus abdominis muscles were so separated that doctors who saw it said, "This is the worst I've ever seen."

Due to the baby's weight, she developed sciatica and leg nerve pain, and reportedly could not move alone in bed without her husband's help. The aftereffects still remain.

Despite the difficult pregnancy, Cumberland said, "I am happy that the baby is healthy," and "My husband and I are very grateful to our beautiful daughter."

Meanwhile, the Guinness World Records lists a 9.98 kg male baby born in Ohio, USA, in 1879 as the 'largest healthy baby in the world.' However, he died 11 hours after birth.
