[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] Two children were killed and 16 others injured by a man in his 20s who broke into a kindergarten in southern China and wildly wielded a weapon.

According to ABC News and others on the 29th (local time), at around 2 p.m. the previous day, a 24-year-old man identified as A broke into a private kindergarten located in Beiliu City, Guangxi, China, and caused a disturbance by brandishing a weapon he was carrying.

As a result, 16 kindergarten children and 2 teachers were injured, and among them, 2 children who were in critical condition died during hospital treatment. It is presumed that A committed the crime during the time when teachers and children were taking a nap.

Chinese public security authorities arrested suspect A at the scene and are conducting an investigation, but the exact motive for the crime has not yet been revealed. Local media reported that A’s wife, who is in the process of divorce, works at the kindergarten.

After the incident, videos filmed at the scene spread on social media. The videos showed A being arrested at the scene, children bleeding and crying, or lying on the floor.

Following the news, photos were posted showing residents lined up in front of a blood donation vehicle to donate blood needed for treating the injured.

The Chinese Ministry of Education announced that it would "strengthen safety measures such as school gate security, school patrols, registration of outsiders, and inspection of vehicles and goods in cooperation with public security across educational institutions nationwide."

Meanwhile, ABC News reported that in June last year, a security guard attacked 39 kindergarten children and staff with a weapon at a kindergarten in the same region.
